I live in an area with very high winds, and as such all the wall mounted flag poles I would purchased on Amazon, no matter how much I spent would bend within six months and need replacement. On top of that the mount would get pulled out of my hardie board column and that would require annoying repairs. I decided to give the Orion wall mount flag pole a try because of the good reviews and because I am a recently retired veteran who is happy to help support another veteran owned business. They did not let me down. This entire kit is of the highest quality and has done great on my home for the last year without any other issues I used to have. The flagpole itself is super sturdy and my neighbor said it was the beefiest flagpole he’s ever seen for a wall mount and I agree. The mount and flagpole have not budged an inch since I installed it. I purchased the entire set up including a the light kit and the eagle finial to keep it properly displayed and looking good both day and night. The light set has worked out very well and is still working great. The gold eagle finial was a little bit of a letdown as it is just hollow plastic and I was expecting something a little bit more sturdy than that but after a year, it’s still working fine and looks good. I live in San Antonio where it gets very hot of course, so the flag pole grease they give you to lubricate the ball bearings melted in the hot sun and dripped all over my first flag. I used bleach to clean it up, but that did result in the flag becoming brittle and needing replacement earlier than it should have I think so if you live in a hot climate it is something to be aware of and probably wanting to use a little bit less grease. The only other thing that I wish they would offer is the memorial Plaques and personalized memorial plaques for the Orion wall mount flag pole the same way they do for the full-size flag poles as I really would’ve liked to add my support for a few select groups and a dedicate the flag pole to my deceased grandfather and father, who were veterans as well. I really hope they will consider releasing that product line in the future. Other than that amazing product and they have my business for life. If you’re looking for the best, don’t hesitate, this is it.
Update - I just wanted to update my review to reflect that you can in fact put the memorial plates on the wall mounted Orion as well. They don’t really advertise that you can put these plates on the Orion but after speaking with customer service, they did confirm that I could use it on the Orion so I wanted to let other people like me know that you can do so. You have to follow the instructions and take your time bending it carefully to the curve of the pole, but with some patience and hand strength it was not too difficult. I added a picture of mine with the memorial plates and hope this additional information will help you as well. So the bottom line is that an awesome pole got even better!!! I also just got their app that is wonderful to let me know when to expect high winds and when the flag should be at half staff. This is funny because right before the app came out and Neighbor was asking me how are we supposed to know when the flag is supposed to be at half staff, and it would be great to have somebody let us know that on a daily basis. Well, Service First ears must have been burning because two days later they announced an app that does just this thing!!! How awesome are these guys??? A note for people with wall mounted flag poles that to put your flag at half staff, you are going to have to have the pole adjusted to come straight out from the wall on those days. This is important to know so that you mount your flag at the right height so the flag is not dragging on anything when the pole is straight out from the wall at 90 degree angle. Unfortunately, I mounted my flag a little too low, not knowing that this was how half staff was done with wall mounted flags and so now I’m going to have to remove the mount, patch and paint the column and reinstall the mount a little higher so that it can be at half staff correctly without dragging. Not too big a deal, but I could’ve saved some work if I had known this to begin with so hopefully they will include this consideration in their instructions in the future and hopefully you read this so that you can think about it as well when selecting your mounting height. Again just an amazing flagpole all the way around, definitely the best in the business!!!
